Tidbit Tuesday

  • 99........100!!  Wow!  This is my 100th post!
  • I wanted to have some killer theme for such a momentous occasion, but alas...I've got nothing...
  • So after some very low overnight temps last week (got down to 29F one night), my shrubs began shedding their leaves...the high for today is going to be 76F...so now they are growing new leaves!!  I guess everyone (and everything) is just plain confused nowadays :-)
  • Had a nice, long 4-day weekend - took a vacation day, Friday was a holiday.  How much did I get done?  Not very much!  In-laws were in town so we did some family partying :-)
  • I did get to operate a skidsteer - not just drive it up and down the driveway - I attempted to run into a pile of dirt and scoop some up...was able to achieve some degree of success - but it will take a lot more practice to get it right!
  • My husband spent the weekend fixing the driveway - we had a section that wasn't draining properly so he dug it up, repacked it with the big gravel, took down a tree so he could trench the side of the driveway better, and then tucked it all in with some crusher run...cross your fingers that it works!
  • Cooked my first acorn squash the other night for dinner - I may have to try to grow these next year.  Cut it in half, scooped out the seeds, placed in a pan with an inch of water, put butter and brown sugar in the middle, covered and baked for a little over an hour....DELISH!  Although you all probably knew that already :-)
  • Hope everyone has a great day!

I love acorn squash, especially with butter and brown sugar! My parents used to eat it all the time when I was a kid and I "didn't like it" but I didn't know. Now I know, and I love them! Boy did I miss out as a kid!

Congrats on the 100th post!

Oh, how I'd LOVE to operate a skidsteer! The novelty of tractor operating has already lost it's luster...I need something new to drive!

I like Acorn Squash, but I LOVE Butternut Squash even more! If you haven't tried it, give it a go. Basically same cooking directions, but I don't even put sugar on it! DD likes it with a squirt of maple syrup though.

Squash, yum! One of my favorite things about fall/winter.

Congratulations on your 100th post! So glad you liked the squash. Winter squashes are so wonderful to have growing in the garden.

Congrats on your 100th post! Hope you saved some of those seeds for planting next year! ;-)

Well at least the driveway wasn't needing repair due to faulty skidsteer driving! HA! I love playing with big toys!

Haphazard - I have always loved the frozen winter squash (in the box like a block) but cannot find it down here. So I figured I would try the "real" thing - delicious!

Carolyn - Thank you! I was nervous at first - there is a lot to remember - but it was fun. Someday maybe I will try a tractor :-) Butternut is our next foray - maybe mixing them both together would be good too!

ADoC - I go crazy if I don't have winter squash at Thanksgiving - it is a tradition in our house. Guess it will now be the fresh stuff instead of frozen!

Leigh - Thank you! I am rather looking forward to trying to grow some next year. Something different from the regular stuff.

Bee Girl - Welcome and thank you! You know, I didn't even think of it...guess I just figure what you buy at the grocery store is probably those "terminator" seed products. But I will be sure to get some seeds for the spring!

APG - Ha!! Faulty skidsteer driving....LOL Only faulty due to it being the first time! It was fun - we had an excavator here too, but that was a little too big for me! I knew you would love that!
